What's the deal with Live Organ Donation??

First, live donating means that the organ is harvested from the donor and directly brought to the recipient. This means the biological integrity of the organ is maintained at a higher standard than an organ harvested from a deceased donor, where the natural processes of death have already caused it to degrade.
This means that a person who receives an organ from a living donor has a better chance at living longer with a kidney transplant that stays healthy for longer. #transplantgoals
Second, living donation provides the opportunity for transplant clinics to riggerously match the antibodies and genetic compatibility of the donor and recipient. This means that chances of rejection are significantly decreased.
So why would you want to donate to a stranger?
That's something I can't answer. I know each donor has thier own reasons. Faith, a sense of wanting to do something good etc. I do know that it is a decision that I would not ask anyone to take lightly.
I can tell you that in my case I try to provide you on here with a chance to get to know me and to see if we "click."
A few points for you to consider:
You can absolutely live a full, healthy life that includes all of life's pleasures (including the occasional wobbly pop and adventures to all-inclusive vacation properties)
Kidney donation is considered a fairly safe and low-risk procedure
Your lifespan should not be shortened
The likelihood of you needing dialysis later in life should not be increased (given prescreening before the decision to donate. Acute injury could change this outcome and is not predictable)
If you have any questions please reach out to me on the website or drop me an email. I'm an open book, just waiting to be read 😂
I don't care if I'm a higher risk donor because I also have type 2 diabetes Angie. Please take my kidney if it's a match.
